The topic for Mystery Topic Challenge #5:
What are your favorite holiday traditions and why?
When I first saw the topic for this challenge I didn’t think I’d be posting because I didn’t really think that I had any really Christmasy traditions. My Christmases are pretty much always spent with my close family just casually hanging out.
The day could be any day where we all get together - apart from the gifts. It’s not particularly Christmasy, and we’re not religious at all.
Our ‘traditions’ are pretty much the same as everyone else’s. There’s gifts that we open early in the morning in PJ’s, Breakfast, and a simple lunch.
But then I thought again. Our ‘traditions’ are pretty ingrained. The PJ and gift thing at 7am doesn’t happen by accident - us kids aren’t so eager to be up that early any more - and it pretty much does happen every year.
Our family comes together every year too - despite my parents separation, and the addition of their partners and families. We ignore the fact that we have all spread out a bit over the years and make an effort to be there for each other. And I guess that’s the tradition I like the most.
Even though it’s really just my parents, their partners and kids, and my brothers, I love the fact that at some point on Xmas day my family will all be in the same room together. And better than that is the fact that it’s as casual, and as relaxed as any other day my family is together.
Even though this year on Xmas day we’ll all be in different places doing different things with different people, we’re still making an effort to get together before Xmas to have a BBQ, hang out, and just be together at Mum’s place.
