7 Random and/or weird facts about Shannon

8 November, 2007

Schmutzie from Milkmoney or Not, Here I Come tagged me to do the 7 Random And/Or Weird Facts About Me meme. Just so you know this is my FIRST meme. I am a meme virgin no longer!

The rules of the game are:

  • Link to the person that tagged you, and post the rules on your blog.
  • Share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself.
  • Tag 7 random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
  • Let each person know that they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog

7 Random And/Or Weird Facts about Shannon:

1. I love the smell of the Cancer Society Sunscreen. Its almost my favorite thing about summer. I have two giant bottles, and a smaller spray on version, as well as an after sun care lotion, just in case.
My love of sunscreen doesn’t stop me from forgetting to apply, and burning the heck out of myself at least once a summer though. Each time I get burnt I tell myself ‘Never again’, and  reaffirm my love of sunscreen by cradling one of the bottles and whispering sweet nothings to it.

2. I was a marching girl. My team was called the Chameleon Blues and we did ok in competitions. I loved my little white boots, my green-blue uniform, and the rigidity of the routines. Despite how dorky it sounds now I thought it was really cool. Sometimes I marched up and down our driveway perfecting my posture and the length of my steps on a specially painted ladder, hoping that someone would see me and realise how amazingly special I was.
That was the same year I discovered my primary school religious teacher lived just down the road from me. I secretly slipped letters into his mailbox on my way home from intermediate school, apologising for how terrible my class was to him that year.

3. I love the smell of horses and leather. I associate them with good memories because I used to be a BIG horse person. I would kill to be able to ride more often, and have done treks and things at Foxton Beach, but its just not the same on a grumpy riding school pony with no will to canter.

4. Despite my love of horses, my first and only tattoo was a frog, right on the base of my neck. My next tattoo will be of three horses, dancing down the side of my rib cage. I have yet to get the horses right, and until I do I’m not going to get it done.

5. In yesterdays post I described myself as adept at packing. That was an understatement.
So far I have lived in 15 houses. Packing is one of my favorite things to do. I love throwing out stuff and starting new.
Despite all the shifting I’ve done I get super stressful finding a house. This is a development from recent years, as the student population expands and the price of decent rentals goes up. Sometimes I hate students, but not more than I hate landlords.

6. Sometimes when I was told off as a kid I’d sneak out my bedroom window and go for a walk around the block before sneaking back in. I felt like a total rebel, despite the fact that my parents would have been fine with me going for a walk.

7. I almost never remember distinct things I did as a young kid. My clearest memories are of when I was around horses, and those aren’t so much about seeing things, but about smells, textures, movements, sounds, and the overlying feeling of calm.
My favorite memory is of me in a party dress sneaking out to lie on the back of my Welsh Mountain Pony for a few minutes before my 8th or 9th birthday party. I pretended to be a princess in my dress. I can remember exactly how the ponys’ fat belly felt warm and furry against my bare legs in the chilly spring sun.

Now for the tagging people - no pressure, you don’t HAVE to do it but it would make me sad if you don’t - I choose:

  1. “I loved my little white boots, my green-blue uniform, and the rigidity of the routines.”

Sounds kinky. Do you do children’s parties?

  2. Thankfully, no I do not.
And if you think that’s kinky… That fact about the marching actually replaced one about how I love condoms, and the pill, and not ever getting pregnant. I thought I should change it because my dad does not need an in depth assessment of how much I love contraception.

  3. And then I went a put it in the comments anyway. *Bangs head on desk*
I should have just bitten the bullet and gone for it.

  4. Mine’s done, although, it’s not quite seven:
You’ve been tagged. If you’d like to take part, here’s the meme:

  5. I never had any good experiences with horses. First off, they are too large of a creature to trust. Plus they bite. and the only time I have ever been on one I was maybe six or seven and it was at some sort of church fair in the summer. I got to ride around in a circle for a few minutes. I was so excited as I watched the other kids take their turns slowly plodding around on this sad looking little horse. My turn finally came and I was plopped up on his back, eager to begin my cowboy adventure on my new steed. But half a circle into the ride the horse stopped suddenly and began pissing. For a long ass time. Possibly two or three hours. It sucked. When I got off some kid ran up to me and began chanting “piss boy”. I never got back on a horse ever again.

  6. isnt it sposed to b stuff ppl dont no? i knew u had a tat of a frog and that u want horses on your ribcage. and i bet im not the only one that no’s that.

but u made up for it with the fact that you love condoms.

mine is still a work in progress.

  7. And Josh, a lot of people feel that way, it just means you’re not horse person so you don’t get it… Horses are different from most other things, you’ve got to know what you’re doing otherwise you just don’t feel safe.

Stace, It doesn’t nessasarily have to be things people don’t know, just weird or random. I think mine fits in with random more than anything.

Besides there’s a reason people don’t know some of the stuff I don’t tell them… Mostly its because its so freaking mundane that its not random, weird, OR interesting…

  8. Thanks for tagging me :-) ; I’m gonna break the rules a bit and post my random/weird facts in this comment:

#1: I have a recurring dream where the brakes in my car don’t work, and I’m driving round and round making constant right turns…wtf?

#2: When I was a child, I would find worms in the school parking lot after rainfalls, and cut them in half (and they would still be alive, and the two parts would move in different directions!). It’s horrible I know, but I did it…

#3: I use my eyelashes to score attention from the male population

#4: I can’t eat ice cream unless I stir it up first and make it all “frozen-yogurt” like

#5: When I was in university, I had an old-man crush on my 50-year-old Micro-Economics professor, ONLY because he had a British accent (believe me, it was only the accent, considering he was almost bald, and had a nice set of man boobs)

#6: I am kind of repulsed by babies,’cause when I was 11-years old, I would have to take care of my baby cousin and change her diapers, and she had this 2-week phase where her poo was always dark green and slimy (GROSS..)

#7: I like eating Hershey Kisses chocolates, not because they taste good (because they don’t…I mean helllllooo, Cadbury is where it’s at), but it’s fun to unwrap them… :-)

  9. That’s cool, I like rule breakers :P It makes you sound like a rebel….

  12. PS. You spelt my blog name wrong. :P

  13. [...] in pancakes I’m feeling special because I got tagged. I might as well do it. Just a shame I’m not getting paid for it. [...]

  14. Ha, whoops… erm Fact number 8. I’m a terrible speller, and rely far too heavily on spell check!

  15. So,,,, Contraception. Isn’t all bad you know LOL
I remember as a kid of about 7 or 8 at the Christmas parade here in Fdg….This old duck had a horse and cart with one of those mini-horses with small horse desease. Real jumpy little mf. Every one on the crowd jumped back as this thing reared up on its hine legs….all accept you. You rushed forward and grabbed the reins. And an even earlier time when you were 2 and walking in the farm paddocks in Bulls picking flowers. One of the biggest horses on the farm (can’t remember its name - could be Charlie) was walking behind you. If this thing had breathed on you hard, it would have bowled you over. You would stop and bend down to pick up flowers and the horse would stop just behind you and look over your shoulder. Then up you would get and walk to the next patch of flowers with this 900kg horse dutifully following on behind. I knew then that horses would play a part; and will again in the furture.
Hope the party (and fort) went well.

  16. man, i’m so jealous of the horse bit. i’ve never actually ridden a horse, ever, aside from those lame pony rides at fairs when i was like 5, and i don’t think those count. my bf’s got horses out on their family farm in south dakota, so maybe i can get on one of them out there some day…

    ack! i’ve been tagged! i’ll work on it… stand by… :-)

  17. [...] 2008 Mintea tagged me to do the Seven Random/ Weird Things About Me meme. I’ve actually already done it, but I’m a people pleaser so I’m more than happy to subject you all to it [...]
